UPDATE: Morrisons are reviewing their car park policy – but it doesn’t go far enough

It has been reported in the online version of the Surrey Mirror that Morrisons are offering to do a partial u-turn on the new parking policy.  However, it does not fully address the need to “turn the cameras off” at 6pm and does not address Sundays. Under their new proposal they will operate the 2 hour limit between 8am and 9pm 7 days per week (even though they close before 9pm on both Saturdays and Sundays, and don’t open until 10.00am on Sundays).

The 3 hour “no return to car park” is still to be enforced.

As one person commented on the Surrey Mirror website, “The relaxation of restrictions by Morrisons is disingenuous. They will still profit significantly from people dropping their children off at school before 9.00 am, and parking for 10 minutes or so, and then possibly returning to shop later the same morning. Likewise, it will still be impossible to shop late afternoon and then return for the cinema, for example, before 9.00pm. Their apparent ‘U-turn’ is nothing more than an empty gesture aimed at limiting the bad publicity. We mustn’t allow them to get away with it.”

So, there is still some way to go before we have in place a set of parking rules that fit the needs of residents and local businesses, as well as Morrisons.

In the meantime we want to continue gathering signatures as there is still work to be done.

Thanks for your continued support.
